Joe Steele consults to international corporations and
non-profits on strategically managing their human resource needs in today's
global economy. He does executive coaching for senior and middle management
focusing on leadership, career development, international relocation
assignments, and performance. Joe also designs and facilitates workshops for
management and non-management dealing with the challenges of communicating
cross-culturally and interacting as diverse individuals and team members in the
workplace. In addition, he does the design and implementation for formal
mentoring programs. For organizational development purposes, Joe conducts
climate surveys of the work environment identifying strengths and areas for
improvement to better equip the workforce in adapting to the
changing needs of the business. He also reviews employment policies and
practices to assess issues of inclusion/exclusion. Joe has delivered his
services throughout the United States, England/Scotland, Canada, Australia,
United Arab Emirates, and China.
Clients have included AT&T, Ameritech, BP OIL, Deloitte & Touche,
Dupont-Merck Pharmaceuticals, Eli Lilly, Fleet Bank, Harris Bank, Hewlett
Packard, Johnson & Johnson, Hovnanian Enterprises, J.P. Morgan
Chase, M&T Bank, Mellon Financial Corporation,
Morgan Stanley Investment Bank, Marsh
Inc., Motorola, Northern States Power, Novartis, Procter &
Gamble, Seagram/Tropicana, Sony Music, Toronto-Dominion Bank, and others. Joe’s non-profit clients have included
the Kellogg Foundation, Annie E Casey Foundation, Brandeis University, Boston
College, and the University of Wisconsin.
Prior to consulting, Joe held various positions in banking and corporate
finance. From 1979-1981, he worked with Chase Bank as an international credit
auditor conducting branch examinations in 10 foreign countries. Upon receiving
a MBA, Joe joined CBS, Inc. working with the Latin American treasury
operations. In 1985, he entered investment banking initially with
Citibank and then moving to Bankers Trust, remaining until 1990. During this
period, he worked almost exclusively with multinational corporations doing
business in Brazil, commuting from New York and eventually living in Sao Paulo.
Joe is conversant in Portuguese.
Joe was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio where he attended St. Xavier High
School. In 1979, he received a BA in Economics from Harvard College. In
1983, Joe received his MBA from Harvard Business School with a
concentration in Finance and International Business.
